On May 10, 2022, the International Culture Federation (ICF) held its fifth salon event at the M2 Gallery in Improve Canada. The theme of the session was “Casual Talks on Torsion Fields,” hosted by Ms. Maggie Yu and co-sponsored by CYCA and ACPN.
Maggie shared her understanding that the concept of the torsion field is similar to what people in the past referred to as the “spirit world.” According to Wikipedia, “torsion field (also called twist field, axial field, spin field, or lepton field) is a theoretical concept proposed by Russian scientists in the 1980s, suggesting that the quantum spin of particles can radiate and transmit information at speeds faster than light.” She reminded the audience that while torsion fields have attracted increasing attention in scientific discussions, they have also been used as a basis for pseudoscience and fraud. Thus, when exploring topics related to mysticism or the spiritual realm, one must be very cautious—neither ignoring the risk of deception nor rejecting the field altogether, as doing so could limit a more comprehensive understanding of the world.
Some scientists claim torsion fields represent a fifth force after gravity, electromagnetism, the weak nuclear force, and the strong nuclear force. Others propose that torsion fields form the material foundation of consciousness (mind, spirit, thought), that torsion fields themselves are consciousness fields, and that the waves they generate are consciousness waves. Consciousness, they argue, is one of the few phenomena widely believed to surpass the speed of light. Maggie also referenced former National Taiwan University president Professor Lee Si-Chen’s 2020 book The Science of Torsion Fields, which attempts to uncover the essence of human consciousness and has been described as a starting point for a global scientific revolution and a new renaissance.
Maggie further recounted stories about Nikola Tesla, who often completed experimental breakthroughs in his mind or in dreams before conducting them in reality. She suggested that although ordinary people do not have supernatural abilities, they can adopt this way of thinking: simulating outcomes in their minds before taking real action. This method, she emphasized, helps save time and energy while reducing unforeseen situations that one may not be prepared to handle.
During the free discussion session, participants delved into unresolved questions with great enthusiasm. Since every particle spins and generates a torsion field, does that mean all matter possesses torsion fields, making the entire universe itself a vast torsion field—a giant vortex of rotation rather than linear forces? Could torsion fields be what distort space-time? How might torsion fields reveal the mystery of consciousness? Is the human brain a transmitter and receiver of torsion fields? Do the mind and spirit exist within the torsion field dimension? Could the 3D Taiji diagram, with its fish-eye pattern, be understood as a portal of space-time? Could practices like Sahaja Yoga awaken latent spiritual power and reconnect people to their true selves? What are the tools for communicating with the spirit world? Are torsion fields the same as the “Qi” described in Chinese feng shui? Why are ancient divination arrays, such as those based on the I Ching trigrams, so difficult to decode?
Participants also raised more speculative questions: Soviet scientists in the 1950s developed torsion field generators and detectors—could such technology be used today, for example, by Russia during the Russia-Ukraine war, to obtain mysterious forms of information? Could extraterrestrials be communicating with humans through torsion fields? Each guest actively contributed to the discussion, and the atmosphere was lively and animated throughout.
This session was co-organized by the ICF executive team together with the Federation’s Artists Club, Wellness Club, Women Entrepreneurs Club, and Daoist Philosophy Club.
